The Arabian Surgeonfish, also known as the Sohal Surgeonfish is native to the Arabian waters of Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, and Red sea. They inhabit coral reef ecosystems.

Description

The Arabian Surgeonfish (Acanthurus sohal), also known as the Sohal Surgeonfish is native to the Arabian waters of Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, Western Indian Ocean and Red sea. They are relatively common and inhabit coral reef ecosystems. They feed on algae and plankton. They have spines on their tails which are used in defense if attacked by predators. These fish play an important part in maintaining algae levels on the reef.

Appearance

Arabian Surgeonfish have a blue and orange pattern with stripes running horizontally along its body, and a long caudal fin (tail).
