Where is Eastern Australia?

Australia is the largest country in the continent of Australasia by land mass. The Eastern coast of Australia consists of three states, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and the island state of Tasmania.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest barrier reef on planet Earth. It is located off the East coast of Australia and is home to a wide range of marine and coral diversity. The barrier reef spans over 1430 miles down the North East coast of Queensland, Australia. It is the largest barrier reef in the world and home to diverse ecosystems that live on the different species of coral reef and must visit for snorkelers! Whitsunday Islands Nature Reserve

Whitsunday Island Nature Reserve is located just off the North East coast of Australia. The Whitsunday Islands is a collection of protected islands with numerous coral reefs home to a diverse range of marine life, including Turtles, Blacktip Reef Sharks, Humpback Whales, Reef Manta Rays, Reef fish, Clownfish, and more.

Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world and a world heritage site for its natural values. The island is located off the Eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. Within its 250km beach coastline, you will find one of the few places in the world where rainforest has grown on a sand island. Key natural attractions include Lake McKenzie, a beautiful light-to-dark blue freshwater lake, champagne pools, and Lake Wabby.

Be aware of the creatures living on the island, including snakes, spiders, and dingos. Dingos live on the island and are essentially wild dogs. There have been attacks, take precautions.

Sydney is the largest city in Australia and is often thought to be Australia’s capital city. Rich in culture and nature, the first thought that comes to mind is the Sydney Opera House which stands in the center of the harbor next to the business district and Harbour Bridge. The Opera house was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon and was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973. This iconic building is sculpted into the Sydney skyline.

Byron Bay is a laid-back surfers’ town located in the North East of New South Wales, approximately an hour’s drive south of the Gold coast. Time slows down in the relaxed hippie seaside town of Bryon. Bryon bay has the most Easterly point in Australia which is a stone’s throw from its iconic lighthouse. There is a carnival atmosphere during the summer months (December-February). During September month, from the lighthouse walk you can see Humpback Whales swimming and breaching as they migrate along the East coast. When we visited we saw Humpback Whales, Bottlenose Dolphins, and Turtles in one pane of view.

The Blue Mountains National Park is an hour’s drive West of Sydney. It’s a popular destination for adventurers to view its stunning mountainous landscape, waterfalls, canyons, and rainforest. The Blue Mountains are named after the blue haze that can be seen across the the national park’s horizon, caused by the Eucalyptus trees.
