What travel gadget should you consider?

When travelling you can become reliant on certain devices, such as you phone for photos, entertainment, communication, your GoPro for action footage, and much more. Here’s a list of our Top 10 essential travel gadgets to help you on your next trip.

1. Smart Phone

Your smart phone is the main essential, as these days they have so much functionality and uses. They can be used for capturing stunning photos, browsing the internet to book your next hotel, keeping in contact with friends and family, and many more. Be mindful of where you are, as having the latest smart phone can make you a target for theft.

2. Portable Charger

Traveling with electronics is going to drain your power. There’s nothing worse than being on a long haul flight and running out of battery, or trying to charge your phone through a USB adapter and it not working. Having a power bank with 3x phone charges will be a game changer on your journeys. They are relatively low cost.

3. AC Adapter

A good adapter that changes to US, European, and UK AC mode, potentially with a USB adapter is going to ensure you have power when you’re on your travels.

4. Earphones

Wireless headphones are great and very convenient, wired headphones still do the job. Be mindful of where you are travelling, you don’t want to be a target of theft if you’re wearing expensive wireless earphones. In certain locations, no earphones or wired headphones will be a safer option.

5. Gadget Bag

A secure bag to store your gadgets is pretty key. There are smaller gadget bags that you can place into backpacks. If you are going snorkeling, there are also waterproof bags which can be great for holding your underwater camera, GoPro etc.

6. Sunglasses

An obvious one, if you’re travelling a hot, sunny country, you’re going to want to protect your eyes with UV protects sunglasses, making you eye sight more comfortable. Also adding a bit of style and personality to your adventure.

7. Underwater Camera

This is obviously dependent if you are snorkeling, or not. But for our trips, it is an essential for getting awesome picture of our snorkel experiences. We really like the Olympus Tough series of cameras, they are very easy to use and most have a snorkel setting. A strap will ensure you don’t drop the camera in the water and makes it easier to swim with. Top tip, remember to wash fresh water over your camera after a snorkel.

8. Low-Cost Digital Watch

A low cost digital wrist watch, is a great tool when you don’t have your smart phone and on the move. We like the Casio Standard Digital Watch, low cost, water resistant to 50m.

9. Backup Memory Card

When travelling you are likely to be capturing moments and memories. Whether it be on a camera, or GoPro, you’re most likely going to be using a memory card to store your photos or videos on your device. You don’t want to be thinking “have I got enough space’. A backup memory card is a great practice to ensure you have a spare. It also means you don’t get caught out with high prices abroad. We opt for the SanDisk for when we use our GoPro’s. Check that the memory card will work with your equipment, especially if you’re shooting a high frame rate on a GoPro.

10. Money Belt

These can keep your valuables secure, and reduce the chance of you getting pickpocketed. You can even put your t-shirt/top over the belt to make them less visible. They’re generally very light weight and pretty reasonable.
